Lee and the Black Hole

by Mickey Tron

All of the stars and galaxies, all of time and space... would you give them up for the one you love?

A workshop production at Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2024

Lee always wanted to be an astronaut. When she grew up, she got her wish – but not in the way she expected: she became the first person ever to orbit a black hole. But this show isn't about her. It's about the girl who loved her who had to stay back on Earth. What does it mean to be the one standing on the sidelines, the one left behind? All of the stars and galaxies, all of time and space... would you give them up for the one you love?

Reviews

  • "This piece made me want to write poetry, made me feel grounded physically (after all the wonderful beyond world imagery), it encapsulates the feeling of discovering space for the first time as a child in the science museum: eerie yet peaceful."

  • "Lee Is the astronaut, but the show's not really about Lee. Black holes and space science are the plot, but the show's not really about those either. If you've ever put so much of yourself into a relationship which has ended not-on-your-terms, this show blows that scenario up to a cosmic scale and nails every single associated feeling dead to rights. An utterly captivating performance."

  • "Just want to say I really loved this. It all sucked me in - the emotion, the science, and the metaphorical threads that link them. And just a beautiful performance anchoring it all. So happy I stumbled on this, it was the highlight of my Fringe festival."
